- The AN/TSC-60(V) series of HF Communications Central facilities were utilized by the Air Force to satisfy requirements for point-to-point and ground-to-air HF communications. They were used to establish long haul communications to a DOD communication system entry point or rear main operating base.
AN/TSC-60(V)-1
The AN/TSC-60(V)1 Communications Central is an HF/SSB radio housed in an air conditioned shelter. Two 1 KW power amplifiers, transmitters, receivers and associated equipment provide voice, CW, teletype or high speed data, multiplexed teletype and speechplus-teletype signals.
AN/TSC-60(V)2 & 3
The AN/TSC-60(V)2 Communications Central, is a standalone ground or air transportable HF SSB radio system similar to the (V)1 with the exception of two 2.5 KW amplifiers instead of 1 KW; the two transmitters and two radio receivers are the same as the (V)1. Each radio group provides four 3 KHz independent sideband (ISB) channels with a transmit capability of 2.5 KW (PEP/average) power output. The radio equipment is automatically tuned and operates in the 2 to 30 MHz frequency range in either simplex or duplex mode.
The AN/TSC-60(V)3 is a standalone shelter similar to the (V)2 but providing only a single OZ-11 10KW power amplifier; no transmitters, receivers or teletype signalling equipment. The AN/TSC-60(V)2 facility is used to drive all signalling to the AN/TSC-60(V)3 via a special OZ-11 communications cable between the two facilities. Although the AN/TSC-60(V)2 can be used independent of the (V)3, the (V)3 can only be used in conjunction with a (V)2.
As of 9 February 1982, the following AN/TSC-60(V) facilities were recorded as inventoried by the United States Air Force (citation follows: R/M ANALYSIS OF ELECTROMECHANICAL EQUIPMENTS, Report Number RADC-TR-82-141, May 1982, Unclassified)but have most likely all been through DRMO, disassembled and sold through surplus stores such as Fair Radio and Murphy's Junk (need links - Asa)
