The AN/PRC-17 is a portable UHF Transmitter designed to provide line-of-sight communications between ground personnel and aircraft. With sircraft at an altitude of 5000 or more, operation up to 30 miles may be anticipated. With aircraft at lower altitudes, terrain will control the reliability and range of operation. Emergency ground-to-ground operation is practical within the line-of-sight limitations.
