TSS Topographic Support System
The Topographic Support System (TSS) is a van and container-mounted system for equipment for topographic troop units. This enables the units to move with corps headquarters. It replaced all the previous field topographic equipment. It is designed to give a quick response with topographic products and services as mentioned below. The system consists of the following sections:
OPERATIONS SECTION ADC-TSS-1: The purpose of the Operations Section is to provide a focal point for supervision of topographical operations. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-313 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files. The section provides a transportable facility for centralized control, direction, and management for the overall functions of the TSS. This control includes processing external priorities, and managing operational activities within the TSS.
STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION SECTION ADC-TSS-2: The purpose of the Storage and Distribution Section is to identify, store, retrieve, and distribute topographic data and maps. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-314 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
The section provides a transportable facility for centralized control, direction, and management for the overall functions of the TSS. This control includes processing external priorities and managing operational activities within the TSS.
DISTRIBUTION SECTION ADC-TSS-3: The purpose of the Distribution Section is to maintain and issue standard map products from a limited stock and to dispose of obsolete map products. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-315 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files. The section provides a transportable facility for maintenance and issue of standard map products from limited stock and disposal of obsolete map products.
DRAFTING SUPPORT SECTION ADC-TSS-4: The purpose of the Drafting Support Section is to provide cartographic products to other TSS sections. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-316 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
The section provides a transportable facility for production of set type; analysis of topographic products; production of precision drawings, grids, and masks; and pin registration.
COMPILATION SECTION ADC-TSS-5: The purpose of the Compilation Section is to provide scribing material, manuscripts, annotated photos, and overlay/overprint material. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-317 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
The section provides a transportable facility for preparation of scribing material, manuscripts, annotated photos, and overlay/overprint material.
SURVEY SECTION ADC-TSS-6: The purpose of the Survey Section is to provide adjusted positions, elevations, and azimuths. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-6675-318 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
The section provides a transportable facility for establishment of new and/or additional basic networks of control; determination of position, elevation, and azimuth at required points at accuracies required; and provision of complete positional support as required by user.
DIRECT SUPPORT SECTION ADC-TSS-17
PRESS SECTION TEAD-TSS-21: The Section provides printing capabilities to the Topographic Support System. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-3610-287 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
CAMERA SECTION TSS: The Section provides a transportable facility for accurately scaled, undistorted line, halftone, and continuous tone negatives and positives for map reproduction. It consists of a ISO-container with transporter as described in the manuals TM 5-3610-257 series (for the container) and TM 5-2330-305-14 (for the semitrailer). See the reference files.
