A pulse type receiver-transmitter used to receive an interrogating signal and automatically to transmit a reply for reception by a responsor. Transpondors fall into two categories: (a) IFF transpondor -- used solely for identification purposes; (b) Racons (radar beacons) -- used for radar navigation.
