Asa Jay Laughton Retired from the Washington Air National Guard, 242 Combat Communications Squadron, in 2003 after 21 years of service. I worked as a Radio Maintenance Technician on HF, VHF, UHF and SHF radio equipment. My primary expertise was the AN/TSC-60(V)2 and (V)4 facilities. I graduated the specialized course for the TSC-60 at Keesler AFB, MS in 1986. That course provided instruction on the (V)1, the (V)2 and the (V)3 facilities, sometimes called "shelters" or "vans."

We started with a (V)2 facility and later after having to send that van to depot, we ended up with a replacement (V)4. Eventually that was deprecated as well and I then worked with an AN/TSC-122 HF comm shelter that fit on the back of a pickup truck. It was very much downsized but later had a Satellite radio system installed in addition to the HF.

I retired as an E6, MSgt after 21 years. I was the shop supervisor for about 10 of those years.

After an opportunity to obtain an AN/TSC-60(V)9 facility, I finally took my Amateur radio exams and passed both the Technician and General in one sitting. I am not restoring and conserving the facility for as long as I am able, and attempting to help put together what I can on the old (V)2 and (V)4 information.
