The Battery Display Unit (BDU) was part of the TACFIRE-system. It could receive, decrypt and print messages from the TACFIRE computer. It is therefor called a one-way device other than the VFMED. Standard army communications equipment was used:

  • electronic line printer (ELP)
  • encryption system

They formed a single unit, transported by a vehicle belonging to the battery. The BDU for each battery was found in the fire direction control section. Later it was replaced by the BCS
